Barnes

New stationary dock

Lake Wylie, SC

Project Overview

This was a particularly rewarding project for the Barnes family and one that came with a bit of history. I originally managed the construction of this dock in 2005 while working for The Master’s Construction, which was owned by my former father-in-law, Bill McGinn.

After purchasing the property, Mr. Barnes enjoyed the dock for many years. Although the original structure still had plenty of life left, its two uncovered boat lifts no longer suited his needs or the way he wanted to use the waterfront. It was time to reimagine the space and create a dock that better fit his lifestyle today.

Mr. Barnes needed only one lift and wanted it fully covered to protect his new boat from the elements. So, it was out with the old and in with the new. Fortunately, much of the original floating dock was repurposed at his daughter’s house, allowing it to continue serving the family.

The new dock features a fully covered boat slip, a 10-foot-wide covered sitting area, and a storage closet. Mr. Barnes plans to mount a television above the closet door, creating the perfect lakeside spot to watch Clemson games.

This was a fun project from start to finish, and we look forward to hearing about the great memories this family will be making.
