By now, you’ve seen the big reveal of the HGTV Dream Home 2026, aptly described as the “Ultimate Lakeside Retreat” on Lake Wylie with “Wow-Worthy Outdoor Spaces.” Its inviting design and sought-after location are making a big splash on social media and in the news. Knotts Builders handled the exceptional “modern coastal” build; it’s a home with loads of luxurious, natural light and first-rate craftsmanship.

Proud to Have Built the HGTV Dream Home 2026 Dock
Our owner, Casey Nicholls, is a licensed marine contractor and a TrexPro® Platinum builder who has been building docks on Lake Wylie and surrounding lakes since 2003. Our clients know that we do not cut corners and only use Grade A materials, structurally reinforcing all tall pilings, girders, and roof support systems.
In today’s post, we’re giving you a little behind-the-scenes scoop as we answer a few questions about the widely known project.
Q: How did it feel to be a part of such a well-known endeavor?
A: When we were initially contacted by Michael Knotts about the project, we felt a mix of pride, pressure, and excitement. We were grateful that our work would be seen on a national stage and tied to a really special home.
Because of the confidentiality around the Dream Home, WaterJack team members didn’t know the full scope of what we were building at first, but they knew they were working on something pretty important.
Q: What was the inspiration for the Dream Home 2026 dock design?
A: Early in the design process, Casey shared photos of his personal family dock on Lake Wylie. The layout and style became the inspiration for the Dream Home 2026 dock, with a selection of upgrades created specifically for this build.
Enhancements include a custom spiral staircase and a combination of glass handrail and cable rail systems. The result? A modern, high-end design that’s still big on safety, strength, and durability.
Q: Was the timeline accelerated?
A: The timeline and expectations were intense, but it pushed the team in a good way. We knew that every detail mattered, and we wanted our craftsmanship and design to shine at the highest level.
Q: Can you tell us about the materials used?
A: We built the dock using Trex® decking and Trex® railing/handrail systems. We’re proud to be a TrexPro® Platinum builder, and the only dock builder on Lake Wylie to hold that accreditation. Trex® was also a major sponsor of the HGTV Dream Home 2026.
Q: How did you feel when the Dream Home 2026 dock was completed?
A: Watching the project come together and finally being able to share what it was part of gave everyone a huge boost of pride. It reminded us why we do what we do: building something lasting, meaningful, and beautiful. We are thankful for the incredibly rewarding and unforgettable experience.
Q: Were you a part of any reveal festivities?
A: We were invited to a house/dock reveal hosted by Trex® last January. Their contractor sales and marketing team was there and very proud to showcase their new products, and they were happy to know that a TrexPro® Platinum had built it. We recently attended the annual Trex® Summit, where their marketing team filmed a video featuring Casey about the HGTV build (stay tuned for more on their social media channels).
Q: What is your hope for the (future) homeowners?
A: Our hope for the homeowners is that their custom WaterJack dock becomes more than just a structure on the water, but an extension of the home, a functional and beautiful space where memories are made for years to come.
Most of all, we hope it brings them joy, relaxation, and a deep connection to the lake and that they feel proud knowing it was built with care, craftsmanship, and the WaterJack standard of quality.
Q: Any advice about living on Lake Wylie?
A: Life on Lake Wylie is truly special, and our biggest advice is to fully embrace it.
First, take the time to slow down and enjoy the rhythm of the lake. The best moments out here are often the simple ones. Early mornings, peaceful sunsets, and spontaneous days on the water.
Second, get to know the lake community. Lake Wylie has a great mix of families, boaters, and longtime residents, and being part of that community makes the experience even richer.
Also, respect the water. Always stay mindful of safety, weather changes, and boating etiquette, as it helps keep the lake enjoyable for everyone.
And finally, use the dock as it was intended: as a gathering place. Whether it’s hosting friends, spending time with family, or just finding a quiet escape, a dock can become the heart of lake life. Lake Wylie is a place where people make lifelong memories, and we hope they do exactly that.
Q: Any final thoughts?
A: We’re still glowing from having our work showcased on a national stage, and are thankful for every client and relationship that’s been a part of our story along the way.
